Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of workload and work characteristics on work motivation and employee performance at the Department of Environment and Hygiene in Badung Regency. Respondents of this study were civil servants at the Department of Environment and Hygiene, Badung Regency, as many as 80 respondents, excluding employees who served in the field. This research usesStructural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis with the help of the SMART PLS 3 program. The results of this study show that workload has a negative and significant effect on work motivation and employee performance, on the other hand, job characteristics have a positive and significant effect on work motivation and employee performance, work motivation has a positive and significant effect on work motivation and employee performance. positive and significant on employee performance. The results of the examination of Work Motivation as a mediating variable show that Work Motivation mediates Workload on Employee Performance negatively and significantly (Partial Mediation), while Job Characteristics on Employee Performance in positive and significant mediation (Partial Mediation).
